Vacuum and special stepper motors

Lin Engineering’s vacuum environment motors are designed for aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing, adhering to AS9100D standards. They ensure optimized energy consumption, low vibration levels, and high tolerance to external vibrations.

These motors use high-temperature tolerant magnets and special grease for extreme temperatures. All components are made from low-outgassing materials and are cleaned, vacuum-baked, assembled in a clean room, and vacuum-sealed. They are ideal for clean rooms, vacuum chambers, and satellites.

Vacuum stepper motors

Vacuum environments pose significant challenges for the operation of any type of electrical device. Conventional stepper motors are not suitable for operation in these environments for two specific reasons: heat and contaminants.

Vacuum stepper motors

Normally, air dissipates the heat generated by the component. In a vacuum, this doesn’t happen. Therefore, magnets made with an alloy that has a high tolerance for extreme temperatures are used, and the bearings are equipped with special grease resistant from -80°C to 204°C. Lin Engineering’s VACUUM motors are also designed with special windings that generate less heat in extreme conditions.

When air is removed from the environment, trapped gas inside the motor may expand, introducing unwanted contaminants. Our specific motors minimize this effect; all motor components are made with low-outgassing materials. Additionally, all components are thoroughly cleaned and vacuum-baked. After the baking process, the motor is assembled in a clean room and vacuum-sealed to ensure no contaminants enter the package.

Special stepper motors

Some applications require the motor to operate at very high or very low temperatures. Using standard motors is not advisable as their performance might be poor.

Motors that need to work in extreme heat or cold conditions require specific characteristics. Lin Engineering has designed two types of special motors intended to operate at the most extreme temperatures:

Type 1 Motors

The motors are designed to operate at ambient temperatures from -40°C to 80°C, and up to 110°C for the motor case temperature.

Type 2 Motors

These motors ensure operation at temperatures from -40°C to 110°C, and up to 140°C for the motor case temperature. Most Lin Engineering motors are available with Type 1 characteristics, and currently, only NEMA 17 size motors are available as Type 2.
